Crowd Dynamics performed modelling and analysis on the unique One Za’abeel development, two tower blocks in the heart of Dubai connected by a glass walkway 100 metres above the ground. The development is home to restaurants, a gym, spa, pool, hotel rooms and offices, and also hosts the Level 23 Experience, an interactive set of acts on Level 23 of the tower.

We advised on capacity of the Ground Floor and Level 23, calculating the maximum number of people it is safe to accommodate in these areas and the impacts of such numbers on crowding levels and queueing. Lift throughputs and capacities were also calculated, with several options developed to give alternative lift operation scenarios to optimise usage and comfort for all users, including visitors to the Level 23 Experience, office workers and hotel guests. Because the lifts were double-decked, the number of options was high. The options were tested using LEGION and the preferred options were recommended to be taken forward into subsequent analysis of the site.
