PROJECT OVERVIEW
Client: Al Balad Alameen/Systra
Sector: Stations & Interchanges
Location: Makkah, Saudi Arabia
Year: 2010 - 2011
Crowd Dynamics are assisting Systra with the design of the new Makkah metro system. A metro system with multiple lines and interchanges is being planned, with line capacities between 15,000 and 65,000 passengers per hour. Crowd Dynamics have provided analyses of the operation of the system and stations, undertaking dwell time analysis of rolling stock to determine optimum boarding times and on train passenger densities.
Tasks include identifying how people route to and from the stations, appropriate designs for the streets surrounding the stations and the appropriate size and nature of queuing areas at the stations. Given the very high volumes seeking to use the metro during Ramadan and Hajj, Crowd Dynamics have studied how to maximise capacity at these particular times.
