Irish Schools & Universities
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Client: BAM
Sector: Buildings
Location: Ireland
Year: 2014
Crowd Dynamics were commissioned to model the circulation of school occupants in four schools in Ireland. The study identified circulation requirements and levels of service, based on research. Key circulation scenarios were identified and intended populations were tested for each, using static modelling techniques, informed by dynamic tests of key infrastructure. The study recommendations included crowd management systems to enhance flows at peak times, and changes to social spaces.
Spatial planning and modelling of peak circulation took place at many secondary and tertiary education facilities. These identify the peak circulation requirements for planned maximum occupancies, the location and capacity of social spaces, and plans for vertical circulation at the busiest times.
